Introduced to the market in 1988, the Volvo F16 achieved considerablecommercial success largely due to its innovative "powertrain" line whichwas able to achieve a high level of driving performance, low fuelconsumption and low running and maintenance costs. The exceptionalfeatures of its 6-cylinder engine were complemented by the innovative"Globetrotter" cab which provided exceptional on board comfort. Thesturdy frame served as a developmental platform for the creation ofnumerous specially outfitted versions to meet a wide range of differingcustomer requirements. One configuration that was particularlyappreciated and used by long and medium-range logistics operators wasthe canvass rear deck. This feature was characterised by good size/spaceratios and further enhanced by the rear hydraulic platform which facilitated easy loading and unloading of goods.
