1:72 8,8cm Flak 37 North Caucasus Carson 760633 500760633

Originally an antiaircraft weapon, the “88” was one of the most famous weapons of WWII. Several variants were produced, and it was in its element when serving as an anti-tank cannon. One of the later versions was the Flugzeugabwehrkanone (Flak) 37, which was a development of the successful Flak 36. Main improvements revolved around updated instrumentation and the Übertragungser 37 data transmission system that enabled gun layers to more easily follow directions from the single director. Mounted on a cruciform platform, it was commonly fitted with an armored shield to protect crewmembers when engaging ground targets.

Dragon Armor’s first ever depiction of the Flak 37 shows a weapon that fought in the North Caucasus in the 1942/43 timeframe. Although the unit can’t be ascertained with any certainty, the gun is painted in a typical early-war scheme of gray. This basecoat has been over-painted with white streaks to produce an interesting winter camouflage scheme. This particular weapon has had a stunning career as illustrated by the impressive number of rings painted on its gun barrel. The requisite meters of the Flak 37 variant have been well rendered on this 1/72 scale model. The “88” was a legendary weapon of WWII, and Dragon’s model is accomplished in both its level of detail and finish.
