1:700 U.S.S. Chicago CG-11 Carson 727121 500727121

After previously releasing a number of fantastic 1/700 scale US Navy ship kits, including USS Long Beach (CG-9) and USS Albany (CG-10), Cyber-Hobby brings another sister ship. The new kit, USS Chicago (CG-11), represents the final Baltimore-class cruiser. She was originally commissioned on 10 January 1945, and was able to join the tail end of operations against Japan in the Pacific at the end of WWII. USS Chicago subsequently transformed into an Albany-class guided-missile cruiser, a metamorphosis that took five years before she was finally recommissioned on 2 May 1964. Key weapon changes were the addition of RIM-24 Tartar and RIM-8 Talos surface-to-air missiles. With these and other extensive modifications, she was thus equipped for her new mission of long-range air, surface and underwater defense. During her new life, she performed five Vietnam deployments before being decommissioned in 1980.

The new Cyber-Hobby kit is made precisely to 1/700 scale. It’s obviously based on USS Albany, which was a product of all-new toolings with the exception of miscellaneous fittings such as missile launchers, radar and some other small parts. The hull comes with the option of full-hull or waterline versions, while the ship’s superstructure is finely reproduced. Slide molds are widely utilized in this smartly designed kit for maximum detail and modeling satisfaction - for example, the bridge and funnels are slide molded. There are also photo-etched parts to improve the overall level of detail. This is a fine new kit of USS Chicago in its resurrected guise as a guided-missile cruiser.
